Jan. 22, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Daniel Mattson, trombonist in the Western Brass Quintet and member of the Grand Rapids Symphony, will join two symphony colleagues, trumpeter Charley Lea and horn player Erich Peterson, in a public recital at Western Michigan University. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

The group will perform selected trios, and each member will present a solo piece. The solo repertoire includes Mattson performing Eric Ewazen's "Trombone Sonata," Peterson playing Verne Reynolds' "Partita," and Lea performing Kent Kennan's "Sonata for Trumpet." Pianist Yu-Lien The, a resident artist in the WMU School of Music, will accompany the solo works.
