Spring Better Hearing Workshops announced

KALAMAZOO--Computerized auditory training, electronic hearing implants, speech reading and the effects of hearing loss on relationships are the topics of weekly workshops held through mid-April on the campus of Western Michigan University.

The events are free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Sponsored by the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, all of the programs will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the WMU Unified Clinics, 1000 Oakland Drive, Kalamazoo. Topics, dates and times for the 75-minute programs are as follows.

12:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and Feb 28

"When Hearing Aids Aren't Enough--How do cochlear implants work?"
5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and March 11
12:30 p.m. Jan. 31 and March 20

"Introduction to Speech Reading--Using Visual Clues"
5:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and March 18
12:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and March 27

"Hearing Loss in Relationships"
5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and March 25
12:30 p.m. Feb. 14 and April 10
