WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News State of the U. and awards highlight Academic ConvocationOct. 19, 2007 KALAMAZOO--A Thursday, Oct. 25, Academic Convocation at Western Michigan University will feature President John M. Dunn's first State of the University address and a series of awards honoring faculty and staff achievements. The event is set for 3:30 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The longstanding academic tradition of gathering to honor accomplishment and focus on important University issues and initiatives is free and open to the public. A reception will be held immediately following the convocation in the adjacent Richmond Center for Visual Arts. During the convocation, awards will be presented to nine members of the WMU faculty and staff for outstanding achievement. Awards presented include the Distinguished Service, Distinguished Faculty Scholar, Distinguished Teaching and Emerging Scholar awards. Each of these four awards carries a $2,000 cash prize. Dr. John M. Dunn, who took the reins as WMU's eighth president on July 1, will make his first major all-campus speech, as he presents the annual State of the University address. Dunn's address will be broadcast on WMUK-FM, the University's public radio station, at 8 p.m. the same day.
The entire convocation will be broadcast on EduCABLE's Channel 28 at the following times: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26; 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29; 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. It will also be played back through the Kalamazoo Community Access Center at: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, on Channel 21; at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, on Channel 20; at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, on Channel 22; and at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, on Channel 95.
