Feb. 21, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Arts and Crafts, voted one of the top acoustic jazz groups by Down Beat magazine's international critics poll, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Arts and Crafts was formed in 2000 by Matt Wilson, a well-known drummer, composer and educator who has worked with such prominent jazz artists as Charlie Haden, Dewey Redman and Lee Konitz. The band has two previous recordings, "Arts and Crafts" and "Wake Up! (To What's Happening)," and is now on tour promoting their third. "The Scenic Route" was released by Palmetto Records last month.

Arts and Crafts band members include Dennis Irwin, bass; Terrell Stafford, trumpet; Gary Versace, piano; and Matt Wilson, drums. The group completed a European tour last year and since then has been performing in jazz clubs, festivals and concert halls throughout the United States.
