Nov. 20, 2006
KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's School of Music presents its annual concert of holiday music at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in Miller Auditorium. Admission is free to the popular community event.
More than 150 musicians will present this year's holiday concert, "Sounds of the Holiday Season." Performers include resident faculty ensembles the Western Wind Quintet and Western Brass Quintet, the latter performing with a student "Christmas Brass Ensemble;" a special trio of faculty members Trent Kynaston (saxophone) and Michael Miller (oboe) with student David Izard (piano); student chamber ensembles from five different instrument studios; the University Concert Band, conducted by John Lychner; and the University Symphonic Band, conducted by Robert Spradling.
The concert includes medleys of holiday tunes mixed with unique arrangements for the studio ensembles, highlighted by the classic musical narrative "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
