WMU giving away surplus furniture to employees

Aug. 14, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, Western Michigan University will be giving away used furniture from its Stadium Drive Apartment complex to WMU faculty, staff, emeriti and retirees with valid WMU ID cards.

The complex opened in 1968 and has been home to thousands of students and their families. Located at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Howard Street, it includes a 200-unit A section and 100-unit B section. The A section will be torn down this fall to make room for WMU's future growth. The give-away includes curtains as well as furniture for bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. Stoves and refrigerators are not included.

WMU faculty, staff, emeriti and retirees who wish to participate must appear in person with a valid WMU photo ID card and should meet Denise Hirzel, WMU Apartments manager, at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Stadium Drive Apt. #347. Give-away participants will receive a list of apartments that have furnishings and the guidelines for what can and cannot be removed from the listed units. Each person will be responsible for removing the approved items that they want. No items may be stored and picked up at a later date.

For more information, contact Denise Hirzel at denise.hirzel@wmich.edu or (269) 387-2178.
