MAC baseball honors go to three Broncos

KENT, Ohio--Three members of Western Michigan University's baseball team were honored today by the Mid-American Conference with selection to all-conference teams.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Ethan Hollingsworth of Joliet, Ill., became the second freshman ever at WMU to receive MAC Freshman of the Year. Ryan Kochen was the previous Bronco to earn the award in 1998. Hollingsworth, who had a 9-2 record in regular season--best ever for a WMU freshman pitcher--was also named to the All-MAC First Team.

Dan O'Brien, a junior left-handed pitcher from Chicago also was named to All-MAC First Team He had a 2.68 ERA and a 6-2 record during regular season.

Sophomore designated hitter Nathan Marquardt of Midland, Mich., was tabbed for the All-MAC Second Team after collecting a .354 batting average with 10 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBIs.

WMU had a regular season record of 30-20 overall and 16-9 against conference opponents and is the No. 4 seed in the MAC Tournament at Kent State University. The double-elimination tournament begins today.

UPDATE (May 25, 2006)--WMU was eliminated from the MAC Baseball Tournament with a 4-3 loss to No. 1 seeded Kent State University. The Broncos ended the season with a 30-22 overall record.
