The center was launched in 2003 with a $10 million state award and $2.5 million in matching funds provided through WMU. Since its inception, the center has been governed with the long-range intention of moving the center to the WMU Research Foundation when that entity was established. The WMU Board of Trustees' action effects the transfer of all assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses and agreements that have occurred as the result of the BRCC and its financing agreement with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to the WMU Research Foundation. The BRCC will continue to have its own governing board and will act as an independent division within the WMU Research Foundation.
