WFS presents area-debut of "The Squid and the Whale"

March 18, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Film Society presents the Kalamazoo-area debut of Academy Award nominee "The Squid and the Whale," starring Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney, Friday through Sunday, March 24-26, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University.

Showtimes are Friday and Saturday, 7 and 9:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 and 5 p.m. General admission is $5 and $3 for students.

Noah Baumbach's "The Squid and the Whale" tells the tale of one quintessentially New York family, the Berkmans, who are struggling to keep it together in their stately, but off-kilter Brooklyn neighborhood. The film captures family dysfunction with excruciating honesty, humanity and hilarity.

"The Squid and the Whale" received a 2006 Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor (Daniels) and Best Actress (Linney). Released in 2005, "The Squid and the Whale" is rated R and has a runtime of 81 minutes.

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Street on Western Michigan University's East Campus. There is free off-street parking behind the theatre. For more information, call the movie line at (269) 387-8221 or visit Western Film Society at www.rso.wmich.edu/wfs.
