English honor society inducts first members

March 8, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Alpha Nu Pi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, will induct its first members at Western Michigan University at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center. The program is intended primarily for the new inductees and their families and friends, but anyone who is interested is welcome.

The new WMU chapter was organized during fall semester 2005. About 45 undergraduate and graduate English students will be inducted as charter members according to Dr. Lisa Minnick, assistant professor of English and the chapter's faculty advisor. Each new member will receive a certificate and pin during the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served afterward.

One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies, Sigma Tau Delta has more than 600 active chapters, 900 faculty sponsors and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually. WMU is one of only 14 colleges and universities in Michigan which support Sigma Tau Delta chapters.
