WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Resident artist Yu-Lien The gives solo recitalMarch 3, 2005 KALAMAZOO--Pianist Yu-Lien The, a resident artist in the Western Michigan University School of Music, will perform a solo recital at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The's recital will include works by Franz Schubert, Olivier Messiaen, Maurice Ravel and Robert Schumann. Born in the Netherlands, The's diploma credentials include piano performance, recorder performance, and piano/recorder education. Her piano teachers include Arie Vardi, Lori Sims and Anatol Ugorski. She has performed as a soloist and recitalist throughout Europe, including appearances with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie and Kammerorchester Hannover. In 1996, The was named a prize winner at the 12th International Piano Competition Viotti-Valsesia in Italy. In 1998, she was admitted to the National Concert Podium for Young Artists, a prestigious recognition for collaborative pianists, which led to several concert tours with violinist Tomo Keller. She maintains a career as a professional recorder player with appearances in Germany as a member of the Little Consort Hannover.
