Gordon Smith, who managed Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University for 16 years, died Oct. 8 in Ypsilanti, Mich. He was 75.
Smith was the manager of Miller from the opening of the auditorium in 1967 until 1983. The Kalamazoo native's long career in the theatre industry also included several other West Michigan positions, including technical director and auditorium manager at Chenery Auditorium and technical and business manager for the Kalamazoo Community Youth Theatre.
He also served as the general manager of the Greater DeMoines (Iowa) Civic Center. Smith was an honorary life member of the International Association of Auditorium Managers and a member of the International Society of Performing Arts Administrators.
