WMU United Way drive reaches 75 percent of goal

Oct. 22, 2005

KALAMAZOO--One month after Western Michigan University kicked off its campus campaign for the United Way, contributions have reached 75 percent of this year's $210,000 goal.

As of Friday, Oct. 21, a total of $156,788 had been received in gifts and pledges from 1,032 WMU donors. The WMU drive officially began with a United Way open house Sept. 20 at the Bernhard Center, attended by representatives from about 30 local United Way agencies.

Campaign officials hope to wrap up the effort and exceed the goal by Nov. 1.

WMU President Judith I. Bailey is serving as the community campaign chair for the Greater Kalamazoo United Way campaign, which has announced a goal of $10.3 million for 2005.

Questions can be sent to Lynn Kelly-Albertson at lynn.kelly-albertson@wmich.edu or to Sharon Van Dyken at sharon.vandyken@wmich.edu. They are serving as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the WMU drive for the United Way.
