WMU HOME > ABOUT WMU > WMU NEWS Guest artist Michael Kris gives free recitalSept. 22, 2005 KALAMAZOO--Michael Kris, director of brass chamber music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, performs in a free guest artist recital at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University. A trombonist, Kris will perform works by Grondahl, Sulek, Crespo and Defaye. He will be accompanied by WMU pianist Yu-Lien The. Kris serves on the faculties of both UNC and Duke University. He regularly performs with the North Carolina Symphony, North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, North Carolina Opera Orchestra, North Carolina Theater and a variety of chamber music ensembles. In addition to his orchestral work, Kris is an active jazz musician. He has toured with groups in the United States and Europe and has performed with artists such as Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Clark Terry and Slide Hampton. Kris attended McNeese State University earning a Bachelor of Music degree in music education and a Master of Music degree in trombone performance from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
