Nominations sought for top student and supervisor
Jan. 14, 2005
KALAMAZOO--Nominations are being sought for two awards associated with Western Michigan University's annual observance of Student Employment Appreciation Week, which will take place Monday through Friday, Feb. 14 through 18.
WMU's Career and Student Employment Services sponsors the week each February. Now in its 19th year, the observance is a time to recognize the hard work and contributions that student employees make to WMU. It also is an opportunity to showcase an outstanding student employee and student supervisor.
The theme for this year's week is "It's Your Time To Shine." The theme is a reflection of the student learning and personal development that occurs in the lives of students who work on campus.
All faculty and staff are encouraged to thank their student workers in some way during Student Employment Appreciation Week, such as by bringing treats, posting comments about and pictures of their student workers, or sending complimentary notes to their students' families.
A highlight of the weeklong celebration will be a recognition reception featuring WMU's 2005 Student Employee of the Year and Supervisor of the Year. The reception will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in the West Ballroom--Rooms 209 and 210--of the Bernhard Center. All nominees and nominators for this year's awards are invited to attend.
Awards nominations are being accepted through Friday, Feb. 11. Online nomination forms are available on the <www.broncojobs.wmich.edu> Web site. Paper nomination forms are available for pick up from CSES at its office on the first floor of Ellsworth Hall.
Those who supervise student workers may nominate their employees and student workers may nominate their supervisors. Anyone who has won in the past is not eligible to win again.
The Student Employee of the Year may be either a graduate or undergraduate student. Selection is based on the nominee's reliability, professionalism, quality of work and initiative as well as the uniqueness of their contributions to WMU. Supervisor of the Year nominees are judged on their professionalism and contributions to student learning and development.
