Claire Porter gets seriously silly in Dalton shows

Sept. 28, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Comic monologue and dance artist Claire Porter will take her audiences on an inner-space ride through a gallery of themes in two performances of "Namely, Muscles," a one-hour, one-woman seriously silly play, Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 5-6, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Tickets for Claire Porter's "Namely, Muscles" are $10 and are available through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at (269) 387-2300 or toll free (800) 228-9858. Tickets for students and senior citizens are $5.

According to the Village Voice, "Porter, mistress of the short, sharp character portrait, is that rare breed--nimble, witty comedian. Porter is always delightful, often wickedly funny."

Actress, writer, dancer and humorist, Porter confronts the world of the normal and takes it careening into the absurd, funny, and touching. She has received several National Endowment for the Arts and New Jersey State Council on the Arts Choreography Fellowships, was nominated for the Cal Arts/Herb Albert Award and received the College of Arts and Sciences' Creative Achievement Award at Ohio State University, where she received her Master of Arts degree in dance.

Porter's shows at WMU are made possible through the cooperation and support of the Donald P. Bullock Performance Institute in the WMU School of Music, the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation of Kalamazoo, and the WMU Department of Dance.
