After a positive weather briefing, we packed up and enjoyed a takeoff breakfast with all the racers and then headed to the airplanes for the start. At 8 a.m., the first five airplanes started up and taxied out for departure. By 8:30, all 33 aircraft were airborne. We flew from Wichita, Kan., to Lamar Colo., to North Platte, Neb., and finally ended up in Gillette. it is now 9 p.m. MDT. The flights were uneventful, with plenty of sunshine and tailwinds.
Sarah and I encountered new scenery and America's heartland at
its best. I finally saw a wild antelope. --Amanda Gruden Media contact: Thom Myers, 269 387-8400, thom.myers@wmich.edu WMU News |
