Chosen from Cialdella's "Calumet Series," the images focus on houses and factories in the "Rust Belt," the heavily industrialized area around Chicago and cover a period from the late 1980s to the present. Cialdella describes the series as "a two-sided coin, one side showing us desolation and blight, the other showing the small triumphs and celebrations of the people who live there." Ciadella is a partner with WMU alumna Susan Carr in Carr Ciadella Photography of Kalamazoo, which specializes in architectural and interior photography. A biography of Ciadella and images from the Calumet Series are available at <www.exclusivelyblackandwhite.com/gary.html>. The exhibit is located on the first floor of the Upjohn Rotunda, which is just inside the main library entrance. Waldo Library is open seven days a week, except holidays.
