African American students honored at Saturday program

KALAMAZOO--African American students who have participated in any of four Western Michigan University commencement ceremonies Saturday, April 24, will get some extra recognition later that day during a 7 p.m. Black Congratulatory and Awards Ceremony taking place in the North Ballroom of WMU's Bernhard Center.
The event will recognize graduating students as well as current graduate students and African American freshmen who will return in the fall. Special awards will be given for outstanding student achievement in and out of the classroom, and members of the WMU faculty and staff will be honored as well.
The event is organized by the WMU's Black Congratulatory Council and sponsored by the Lewis Walker Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations, the Divsion of Multicultural Affairs, the National Panhellenic Council and the Office of the President.
