Riverdance returns to Miller Auditorium
KALAMAZOO--The original international phenomenon, "Riverdance--The Show," returns to Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University for eight performances Tuesday, May 4, through Sunday, May 9.
Performances are Tuesday through Thursday, May 4-6, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 7, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 8, at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 9, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan, "Riverdance" has touched the hearts of millions around the world. The Chicago Tribune calls it "An explosion of sight and sound that simply takes your breath away," and the London Times says "Riverdance" is "a family evening unlike anything else!"
"Riverdance" is a celebration of Irish music, song and dance, which focuses on the evolution of Irish dance, as well as its similarities with, and influences on, other cultures. Whalen won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album for his original music and lyrics.
"Riverdance" had its world premiere in February 1995 at the Point Theater of Dublin, where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim. There are currently two productions of "Riverdance" touring the world. To date, more than 15 million people worldwide have seen "Riverdance," in addition to some 6.5 million people, who have purchased the video versions of the show. "Riverdance--The Album" has sold more than two million CDs worldwide and is certified Platinum in the United States.
