Some roads limited to one-way traffic beginning Thursday
March 15, 2004
KALAMAZOO--Thursday through Monday, March 18-22, traffic will
be limited to one way on portions of West Michigan Avenue and
Rankin Avenue on the campus of Western Michigan University.
During work on utilities, Rankin from Business Court to West
Michigan will be limited to northbound traffic only and West
Michigan from Rankin to Howard Street will be limited to eastbound
traffic only. Access to WMU parking lots in the affected area
will be maintained, specifically lots 82, 83, 61 and 100.
Students, faculty, staff and the public are encouraged to
seek alternate routes and avoid the construction area as much
as possible.
As a result of these closings, all traffic exiting Business
Court, which serves Schneider Hall and the Fetzer Center, will
be routed north on Rankin. Left turns (south) onto Rankin will
not be permitted.
Northbound traffic on Knollwood Avenue will be restricted
to a right turn only (east) on West Michigan and routed north
on Rankin. Traffic exiting Knollwood onto West Michigan will
not be permitted to turn left (west) toward Howard.
Utility work in the affected area is part of improvements
to the main west entrance of the University's West Campus, which
earlier this month resulted in the closing of a parking lot next
to Faunce Student Services Building.
Major road closings are scheduled to begin in April. Work
is expected to continue through the summer, with completion before
the start of fall semester.
