Concert Band performs Sunday at Miller Auditorium

March 23, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Conductor John Lychner and the University Concert Band present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University.

The concert will begin with Glenn Cliff Bainum's wonderful transcription of "Polka and Fugue" from the opera "Schwanda, the Bagpiper" by Jaromir Weinberger. It will be followed by a performance of "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre, who will be the featured composer for this year's WMU Spring Conference on Wind and Percussion Music.

Graduate assistant Matthew Lefebvre will conduct "The Klaxon," a crowd-pleasing march by Henry Fillmore. The concert also will include "Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn" by Norman Dello Joio and "Russian Christmas Music" by Alfred Reed.
