Foulk is featured soloist for Symphonic Band concert
Feb. 13, 2004
KALAMAZOO--The University Symphonic Band will present familiar
compositions by Malcolm Arnold, Henry Purcell, Daniel Buckvich
and John Philip Sousa in a 3 p.m. concert Sunday, Feb. 22, in
Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University.
In addition to the more familiar classics, the band will perform
"Slattergille," a folk rhapsody by Swedish composer
Albert Lofgren, as will a new work by Brian Balmages titled "Pele."
Featured soloist for "Pele" is Dr. Lin Foulk, a
member of the WMU music faculty. Foulk has performed as principal
horn with the Oshkosh and Manitowoc Symphony Orchestras, and
as a member of the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra and Quinthorne Brass
Quintet. In addition, she frequently performed with the Milwaukee
and Madison Symphony Orchestras in Wisconsin. Especially interested
in music with horn by women composers, Foulk has performed nationally
at several women composer festivals in addition to serving on
the board of the International Alliance for Women in Music. She
also created, hosted, and engineered programs for "Other
Voices" on WORT FM in Madison, which featured music by women
composers and performers.
