
Professional development programs this week for grad students

KALAMAZOO--A series of informational programs for graduate
students run through Thursday, Jan. 29, as part of Western Michigan
University's annual observance of Professional Development Week.
The week is designed to expose graduate students to career
development opportunities as well as to help these students learn
strategies for maximizing their graduate experience. The theme
for this year's observance is "A View Into the Future: Prepare
Yourself to Experience What Is on the Other Side."
Sponsors for 2004 are WMU's Graduate Student Association,
Graduate College and Career and Student Employment Services.
Nine different informational programs have been scheduled from
Monday through Thursday in the Bernhard Center. No reservations
are necessary, and refreshments will be served.

Monday, Jan. 26
"Career Development for Graduate Students, presented
by Career and Student Employment Services, 211 Bernhard Center,
4 to 5 p.m.
"Writing a Curriculum Vita," presented by Dr. Paula
D. Kohler, associate professor of educational studies, 212 Bernhard
Center, 5 to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 27
"Setting a Research Agenda," presented by Dr. Kevin
B. Vichcales, director of awards, training, and special projects
in the Graduate College, 212 Bernhard Center, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
"E-portfolio Evolution: Discovering Electronic Portfolio
Possibilities," presented by Lynn Kelly-Albertson, executive
director of professional and career development in the Division
of Student Affairs, and Jessica Baby, Graduate Student Advisory
Committee officer, 211 Bernhard Center, 4 to 6 p.m. Students
who attend will receive a free one-year membership to Interfolio.com.
Wednesday, Jan. 28
"Choosing a Mentor," presented by Dr. William R.
Wiener, dean of the Graduate College, 212 Bernhard Center, 4
to 5 p.m.

in Your Life During Graduate School," presented by Dr. John
H. Coons, director of the Counseling and Testing Center, and
Dr. Ric L. Underhile, director of health promotion and education
in the Sindecuse Health Center, 211 Bernhard Center, 4 to 5 p.m.
"Get it Together for the Career Fair: Strategies and
Resume Critiquing," presented by Career and Student Employment
Services and featuring a special speaker on graduate student
recruitment, 212 Bernhard Center, 4 to 6 p.m.
