
Volleyball Broncos conclude season on high note

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's volleyball team concluded
its season with 3-1 victory over nationally ranked No. 20 Cincinnati
at the Conference USA/MAC Volleyball Challenge in Louisville,
Ky.
The Broncos were 17-14 overall in 2003 and 8-8 in Mid-American
Conference regular season play. In the MAC Tournament, No. 9
seeded WMU defeated Kent State before falling to No. 1 seed Ohio
University.
Senior Carman Malone from Muncie, Ind., was named to the All-MAC
Second Team, while Kalamazoo's Shaylen Jackson, a sophomore,
made all-conference honorable mention.
Malone hit .251 (406-156-108) while averaging 3.76 kills,
3.12 digs, 0.51 blocks per game this season. She had 16 kills
, 11 digs and a service ace in her final game as a Bronco against
Cincinnati.
Jackson had a career-high 20 kills, hit for a .581 percent
with seven total blocks in the Broncos' 3-2 MAC Tournament win
over Kent State. For the season, she hit .380 (282-66-108) while
averaging 2.61 kills, 0.64 digs, and 1.30 blocks.
