Knific celebrates release of 'West of Everywhere'

KALAMAZOO -- Internationally renowned violinist Renata Artman Knific celebrates the release of her first crossover jazz CD, "West of Everywhere," with a special performance beginning at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Knific, a professor of music at WMU, will be joined by the Western Jazz Quartet and special guests for the Nov. 16 performance. A reception follows, and artists will be available to autograph CDs. General admission is $10 and $5 for students and senior citizens. One admission is free with each purchase of the CD, available at the door. CDs are $15 each and will be available at the door.

"West of Everywhere" represents years of musical collaborations and includes performances by American music greats Sir Roland Hanna, Gene Bertoncini, John Abercrombie, Billy Hart, Andy LaVerne, Billy Drewes, Jamey Haddad, and others. Selections include a series of originals written for this project and choice jazz standards. Sir Roland Hanna contributes romantic, lyrical tone poems. Bassist, composer, and producer Tom Knific offers joyous Latin inspired selections and the exotic "Belvoir" for violin and world percussion.
