Western Winds offer free concert

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Winds, a Western Michigan University ensemble composed of School of Music faculty and graduate students, will present a free public performance on Wednesday , Nov. 5, beginning at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

Featured works include Charles Gounod's "Petite Symphony" for wind nonet, Giovanni Gabrieli's "Conzon Quarti Toni" from the "Sacrae Symphoniae" (1597) for three antiphonal brass choirs, and an arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky's "Great Gate of Kiev" from "Pictures from an Exhibition" for brass choir, percussion, and organ. Robert Spradling, director of bands, will conduct the ensemble, and the Graduate Wind and Brass Quintets also will be included on the program.
