Centennial honors go to 100 art alumni
Oct. 22, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- A program honoring 100 Distinguished Art Alumni
begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Dalton Center Recital
Hall as part of this year's centennial celebration at Western
Michigan University.
The 100 art alumni being recognized represent generations
of diversity in undergraduate and graduate study in the visual
arts at Western Michigan University. From the first graduating
teachers from Western State Normal School to artists, designers,
and scholars graduating from the School of Art, visual arts education
parallels the expanding mission of WMU.
Selection criteria included excellence and recognition in
professional practice, the teaching of art, the application of
art to other professions, the enrichment of the cultural environment
through critical thinking, and/or leadership in the visual arts.
A reception at the annual art faculty exhibition in the Dalton
Center Multimedia Room follows the art alumni recognition ceremony
from 5 to 7 p.m.
Both events are free and the public is invited to attend.
