AFSCME membership approves contract

KALAMAZOO -- In an Oct. 21 vote, members of Local 1668 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Michigan AFSCME Council 25 approved a new three-year contract with Western Michigan University by a 3 to 1 margin.
The contract will now go the WMU Board of Trustees for its consideration. The board has scheduled a special conference call meeting for 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, to consider the contract. The call will originate from the Connable Board Room in the Bernhard Center. Details of the agreement are being withheld pending approval by the WMU trustees.
AFSCME represents nearly 500 custodial, dining services, grounds and maintenance employees at the University.
