Oct. 7, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- Members of the University community are invited
to attend the WMU Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 16, in the East Ballroom of the Bernhard Center.
The free fair, an expansion of the University's traditional
fall Benefits Fair, is designed to help faculty, staff, students
and retirees learn how to create, maintain and sustain a healthy
lifestyle. It will provide one-stop shopping for those seeking
health- as well as benefits-related information.
Scores of exhibitors representing campus units and Kalamazoo-area
health providers and financial institutions will be participating
in the event.
A wide variety of diagnostic assessments and interactive activities
will be offered, including blood pressure, vision and hearing
checks; musculosketal and diabetes screenings; geriatric assessments;
biomechanical foot evaluations; prescription medicine reviews;
crisis interventions; chair massages; and presentations by service
dogs. There will even be healthy food samples to try.
In addition, information will be available on such subjects
as WMU employee and retiree benefits; the Michigan Educational
Savings Plan; health career options, local volunteering opportunities;
ergonomic, environmental and safety issues; nutrition and diet;
exercise and strength training, local senior citizen and mental
health resources; and holistic health and wellness alternatives.
