Trustees to vote on AAUP agreement
Oct. 3, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees
will convene by phone in a special conference call meeting set
for 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, to consider a recommendation to approve
new provisions for an existing contract with the University's
faculty union.
The wage, health care and retirement provisions were negotiated
over the past summer and, if approved by the Board of Trustees,
will go into effect for the final two years of a three-year contract
with the WMU chapter of the American Association of University
Professors. That contract was negotiated in 2002 and at the time
it was entered, both sides agreed to reopen talks on several
issues this year for the final two years of the contract. A tentative
agreement was announced Sept. 18. The AAUP ratified the terms
in a membership vote held Oct. 1, with 52 percent of the 471
members voting to approve the agreement.
The conference call meeting will originate in the Connable
Board Room of the Bernhard Center. Trustees will briefly go into
an informal closed session before voting on the agreement.
