Sept. 9, 2003

KALAMAZOO -- Student organizations at Western Michigan University are sponsoring a candlelight procession Thursday evening, Sept. 11, the second anniversary of terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C.

The candlelight procession, which is free and open to the public, will form at the Fountain Plaza near Miller Auditorium at 8 p.m. Thursday. The procession will move across the center of campus to the pavilion in Goldsworth Valley. This same route was followed for a candlelight procession on the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy.

Among those expected to offer remarks are Diane Anderson, vice president for student affairs and dean of students; Randy D. Locke, an officer of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity; and Courtney Schroeck, representing the Interfraternity Council and Western Panhellenic Council. Phi Beta Sigma, IFC, WPC and Campus Republicans are among the sponsoring student organizations.
