
Budget issues, fall tuition and fees top board agenda

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees
will tackle the University's budget and set tuition for the 2003-04
academic year when it meets in formal session at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday,
July 16.
Meeting in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center, trustees will
consider a range of budget items and recommendations from the
University administration about how to manage a state appropriation
cut for the coming year that is expected to amount to $12.5 million.
Agenda items for the board to consider include tuition and room
and board rates for the coming year as well as vehicle registration
rates and changes to the University's fee structure.
Trustees also will hear gift, grant and personnel reports
and will consider recommendations to change one department name
and restructure another.
The meeting of the full Board of Trustees will be preceded
at 9 a.m. by an informal closed session and by meetings of the
board's two standing committees. The Student Affairs Committee
is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m., and the Budget and Finance
Committee will meet at 11 a.m. Both committee meetings also will
be held in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center.
