WMUK surpasses $158,000 spring fund goal
May 19, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- WMUK, the public radio station at Western Michigan
University, successfully completed it's spring fund drive on
Friday, May 16, with a total of $158,244 in gifts and pledges.
"All of us at WMUK are sincerely grateful to the many
listeners who helped us reach our spring goal despite a stressed
economy and delays caused by Iraqi War coverage," says Floyd
Pientka, station manager. "Donations made through WMUK's
Web site increased significantly, reducing our need to rely on
traditional on-air phone pledges this time."
The spring drive was concluded as soon as the original goal
of $158,000 was surpassed. There were 1,962 contributors to the
effort, 305 or 15 percent of whom were first-time donors to WMUK.
WMUK, 102.1 FM, is undergoing a major renovation of its studios
and recently installed a new transmitter. As soon as the renovations
are complete, Pientka says the station will be able to provide
an enhanced level of local coverage to our community.
