Fines double for parking in handicapped spaces
March 31, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- Acting at their March 28 meeting, Western Michigan
University trustees approved an increase in the fine for illegally
parking in a handicapped space on campus.
Members of the Board of Trustees agreed to increase the penalty
for unauthorized use of a handicapped parking spot from $50 to
$100. University officials told the board that there is high
legitimate demand for handicapped spaces on campus, but noted
that illegal use of handicapped spaces has been on the rise.
The new $100 fine is the maximum allowed under Michigan law.
All other parking fines remain unchanged.
