Wind ensemble from the Netherlands performs at WMU
Feb. 11, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- The Holland Wind Players, a 15-member chamber
ensemble from the Netherlands, will be featured in concert Monday,
Feb. 17, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western
Michigan University.
The ensemble's Dalton Center is free and open to the public
and is sponsored by the WMU School of Music. The program will
include works by Gounod, Hartmann, Meijering, and Dvorak.
The Holland Wind Players is comprised of members from the
larger orchestras in the Netherlands, such as the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra and the radio orchestras. Concerts by the ensemble
focus on music in which wind instruments have a leading role
to play, either with compositions written especially for wind
instruments or with music in which strings and/or percussion
combine with prominent passages for winds. Performances by the
ensemble are surprising and challenging, and they include standard
repertoire as well as works which have long been forgotten.
