
Workshops explore reading, understanding financial statements

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University and the Battle Creek
Area Chamber of Commerce are joining forces for a two-part series
on making sense of financial statements.
On Jan. 13 and Feb. 10, Ursula P. Case of Yeo & Yeo will
present "How to Read and Understand Your Financial Statements"
from 6 to 8 p.m. at WMU-Battle Creek's Kendall Center, 50 West
Jackson. Part of a monthly series co-sponsored by the University's
Women's Business Development Center and the chamber, the programs
are free and open to the public.

During the presentations, Case will discuss the components
of a balance sheet and how to interpret them, how the balance
sheet and income statement interrelate, and the basic ratios
to compute working capital and the break-even point. She will
also describe how depreciation works and touch on how to spot
warning signs of potential problems.
Case has two decades of public accounting experience. She
is the managing principal of Yeo & Yeo's Battle Creek office,
where she serves on the estate planning, manufacturing and health
care services teams. Her expertise lies in business and tax consulting
for manufacturing, retail and corporations; estate planning;
and tax planning and preparation with an emphasis on individuals,
small businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Case is a
member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants,
and she serves on the MACPA's Governmental Advisory Committee.
She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from WMU.
