School of Music presents opera workshop performanceNov. 22, 2002 KALAMAZOO -- The School of Music at Western Michigan University will present an Opera Workshop performance on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. It will consist of operatic excerpts from such famous operas as Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Faust and Hansel and Gretel, as well as lesser known works by Gian Carol Menotti and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari. The performance is one aspect of the workshop study of acting and singing for the operatic stage. This semester's workshop includes students of all levels from freshman to senior, as well as one graduate student. The excerpts will be staged in concert dress with minimal props and lighting in order to focus on the musical and acting challenges posed by the works. Scenes will be staged by WMU Director of Opera Carl Ratner, with piano accompaniment by graduate assistant Tina Hatch. Media contact: Kevin West, 269 387-4678, kevin.west@wmich.edu |
