Nov. 12, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Regena Fails-Nelson, associate professor of teaching,
learning and leadership at Western Michigan University, recently
was named president-elect of the Michigan Association of Early
Childhood Teacher Educators
WMU's Barbara Harris was named to the organization's leadership
as a member-at-large. Harris is also an associate professor of
teaching, learning and leadership in the College of Education.
In addition to doing research and advocacy work, MiAECTE promotes
quality teacher education programs and professional development
in Michigan for those preparing to teach children from birth
to 8 years old.
When her tenure as president begins in January, Fails-Nelson
plans to draw on her extensive experience in early childhood
teacher education program accreditation at the national level.
"As such, I will help improve early childhood teacher education
programs in Michigan so they are all able to meet the new national
standards that were adopted in 2002," she says.
