Trustees move swiftly on Floyd's successor
Nov. 13, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Richard Y. St. John, chairperson of the Western
Michigan University Board of Trustees, said today the board expects
to name an interim president and move quickly to launch a search
to fill the position that will open in January when Dr. Elson
S. Floyd leaves the University to become the president of the
University of Missouri system.
"We will name an interim president who will be ready
to step in when Dr. Floyd leaves," said St. John. "We
also will move swiftly to start the search for his successor.
It is our intention to have that person in place by the beginning
of the fall 2003 semester. This board is committed to finding
a leader with the vision and energy needed to keep the University
moving forward in the very important initiatives that have been
established over the past several years."
Floyd's resignation from WMU is effective Jan. 5, 2003. He
will take office in Missouri the following day.
