Senior LaToya Flanigan earns fashion, merchandizing award
Nov. 6, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University student LaToya Flanigan
has received one of only six scholarships awarded by Fashion
Group International-Detroit Chapter for study during the 2002-03
academic year.
Flanigan, of Flint, Mich., is a senior majoring in textile
and apparel studies, with an emphasis on fashion merchandising.
After graduation, Flanigan says she plans to apply all the knowledge
she has gained at WMU by working as an assistant buyer.
Based on academic achievement, industry experience and stated
goals to achieve success in a fashion design and merchandising
career, the FGI scholarship includes a $500 award for each of
its recipients. FGI, a non-profit global organization of men
and women from all facets of the fashion industry, supports young
and promising talent in the field. The award Flanigan received
was given at the organization's annual Career Day, an event that
brings together successful, experienced industry professionals
and fashion design and merchandising students for a day of presentations,
seminars and networking through the FGI job fair.
Flanigan is the daughter of Linda and Larry Flanigan, both
of Flint.
