Zegree named composer of the month

KALAMAZOO -- Dr. Stephen Zegree, WMU professor of music, has been named choral music composer of the month by Hal Leonard Corp., the world's largest music print publisher.
Featured on the Hal Leonard Online Web site are two recent Zegree choral arrangements, "New York State of Mind," by Billy Joel; and "Christmas Time is Here," by Vince Guaraldi, from the animated holiday special "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
Earlier this year, Zegree received critical praise for his latest book, "The Complete Guide to Teaching Vocal Jazz." Another of his arrangements, "Love Walked In," by George and Ira Gershwin was selected as the recording of the month, in June, by Musica International, an online database of choral repertoire.
Zegree is director of WMU's award-winning vocal jazz ensemble Gold Company, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary during 2002-03.
