Name of international student services office updated
Sept. 20, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- An updated name for the Office of International
Student Services was formally approved by the Western Michigan
University Board of Trustees at its Sept. 20 meeting.
The new name, Office of International Student and Scholar
Services, went into effect July 1, 2002, pending approval by
the University's governing board. It more accurately reflects
the scope of services offered by the office and is consistent
with names used by other higher education institutions that emphasize
international programming.
OISSS provides a wide variety of services and resources for
visiting international scholars and some foreign-born WMU faculty
members as well as the some 2,000 international students who
study at the University each year.
In addition, OISSS enhances multicultural understanding on
campus; serves as a primary link to University departments, federal
agencies, and public and private organizations; and facilitates
interactions among international students, the University community
and the Kalamazoo community.
