June 4, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Small businesspeople can get a handle on how
much insurance other companies carry and how much they're paying
at a Western Michigan University presentation Monday, June 10,
in Battle Creek.
Area insurance experts will be part of a panel that addresses
"Small Business Insurance: A Survey of What Other Companies
Have and What They Pay" from 6 to 8 p.m. at WMU-Battle Creek's
Kendall Center, 50 West Jackson. Part of a monthly series co-sponsored
by WMU's Women's Business Development Center and the Battle Creek
Area Chamber of Commerce, the program is free and open to the
public.
Panel members will include Randy Gorham, an agent with State
Farm Insurance; Patricia Norris, financial consultant with Comerica
Securities; and Lance Johnson, vice president of the Insurance
Network. Chris Micklatcher, president of Alternative Tax Solutions,
will moderate the discussion.
Topics will include what kinds of insurance businesses need,
how rates are calculated and how much rates vary. Panel members
will discuss the different types of commercial insurance, personal
insurance for owners of home-based businesses and insurance products
that can ensure a smooth transition to a new owner in the event
of death.
WMU's Haworth College of Business established the Women's
Business Development Center in 1999 to offer support to female
professionals and entrepreneurs through training, problem-solving
consultation, current business information and networking opportunities.
Reservations are required. For more information or to reserve
