Engler reappoints Strazdas to state commission
May 28, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Michigan Gov. John Engler has reappointed Peter
Strazdas, director of maintenance services at Western Michigan
University, to the state's Construction Safety Standards Commission.
Strazdas was originally appointed to the commission in 1994,
with reappointments in 1996 and 1999. He has served as the group's
chairperson for the past four years.
The Construction Safety Standards Commission creates the safety
rules that govern Michigan's 200,000 construction workers. Under
the federal Occupation Safety and Health Act, the commission's
rulings have the power of law. Membership on the commission,
which meets monthly, is equally divided between representatives
from management and labor.
Currently a member of the Portage City Council, Strazdas is
past president of the Greater Kalamazoo Builders Association
and former chairman of the Portage Planning Commission.
