
Health center director candidate to speak

KALAMAZOO -- Members of the Western Michigan University community
and the public are invited to attend a presentation by Dr. Gary
M. Kirk, a finalist for the post of director of WMU's Sindecuse
Health Center.
Kirk will speak on "Creating a Healthy WMU Campus Community:
Vision and Leadership" from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8,
in the Fetzer Center's Putney Lecture Hall. A reception in Fetzer
will immediately follow the presentation.
Kirk currently serves as director of the Pediatric Program
at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. He presides
over the Pediatric and Adult Asthma Network of West Michigan,
which he helped found, and has taught at the University of Chicago
and Michigan State University.
A licensed physician in Michigan, Arizona and Illinois, Kirk
has done postdoctoral training at Mott Children's Hospital in
Ann Arbor, Mich., and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. He
received his bachelor of science degree from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in 1980 and his doctor of medicine degree
from the McGill Faculty of Medicine in 1984. He also received
a master of health professions education degree from the University
of Illinois-Chicago in 1991 and is currently pursuing a master
of public health degree with an emphasis in health services administration
at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
