May 24, 2002

KALAMAZOO -- A Western Michigan University student has landed a prestigious internship with one of the world's top marketing and communications firms.

Haworth College of Business senior Arnetta Newborn will complete a 10-week internship at Young & Rubicam in Chicago beginning next month. Newborn got the position as an account management intern through the Summer Multi-Cultural Intern Program sponsored by the Chicago Advertising Federation. She was chosen for the competitive program based on an application and essay outlining her qualifications and goals. In addition to her on-the-job experience, she will benefit from weekly educational programs sponsored by participating agencies, a mentoring program, and numerous social and networking events.

Newborn has been majoring in marketing, but plans to change her major to advertising and promotions. In previous years, she has completed sales internships with General Electric Supply and Saginaw Machine Systems. She is the daughter of Arnold and Pearl Newborn of Saginaw, Mich., and a 1998 graduate of Buena Vista High School.

Headquartered in New York, Young & Rubicam has 539 offices in 80 countries. Its services include advertising, database marketing and customer relationship management, perception management and public relations, branding identity consultation and design, and health care communications. The firm's clients include Sears, Sony, Ford, Citigroup, Xerox and Accenture.
