Web service interrupted May 3 for major upgrade
April 26, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's main Web server,
<www.wmich.edu>, will be unavailable between 6 p.m. Friday,
May 3, and noon Saturday, May 4, during a major system upgrade.
As a result of the upgrade, performance of the main Web server
will be significantly improved, according to system managers
in the Office of Information Technology. The new server cluster
will offer enhanced redundant capability in addition to better
overall performance.
Migration to the new server cluster culminates months of planning
and was scheduled for a period when the University is not in
session to minimize any inconvenience to users. Major improvements
to Web service are one product of the strategic plan for information
technology, which has as one of its goals "To establish
an exemplary Web presence that appropriately portrays Western
Michigan University as a premier, student-centered, research
institution."
