Gary Fund campaign underway
April 15, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- The 2002 Mike Gary Athletic Fund Drive for Western
Michigan University begins Wednesday, April 17, with the goal
of raising $730,000. Proceeds from the drive will be used in
providing scholarships, travel support and equipment for WMU's
20 varsity athletic programs.
Chairing this year's drive is Jon Dixon, retired vice president
of Bronson Healthcare Group and a volunteer in the Gary Fund
Drive for more than 10 years.
"I am very honored to serve as chairperson for the 2002
Mike Gary Athletic Fund Drive," said Dixon. "I have
a strong interest in the success of the Gary Fund as an alumnus
and a fan of Bronco athletics for over 40 years. This year's
goal is a challenge but with the volunteers' hard work and the
support of the community and friends of Bronco athletics, it
is an attainable goal."
Assisting Dixon is chairperson elect Charlie Miller, a retired
State Farm agent and Gary Fund volunteer for almost 20 years.
A telephone campaign will kick off the drive, with a group
of approximately 40 volunteers making calls to requests support
from April 22 through May 2.
