
KIA's Don Desmett judges annual student art show

KALAMAZOO -- Don Desmett, director of collections and exhibitions
at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, is the judge for the 2002
Western Michigan University Annual Art Student Exhibition. Judging
takes place Tuesday, March 12.
This year's edition of the annual student exhibition runs
from March 20 to April 2 in the Dalton Center Multimedia Room.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Awards Ceremony for the student exhibition is Monday, March
25, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The exhibition
,awards ceremony and reception that follows are free and open
to the public.
Prior to coming to the KIA in 2000, Don Desmett was executive
director of the Art Center of Battle Creek, Mich., as well as
it's main curator for two years. From 1990-98, he was director
and curator of the Tyler Galleries at the Tyler School of Art
of Temple University in Philadelphia. Also, he was art gallery
director at Cleveland State University from 1986 to 1990 and
director of exhibitions at Gallery G in Pittsburgh, 1984-86.
In addition, he has curated exhibitions for the Krannert Art
Museum at the University of Illinois, the William Benton Museum
of Art in Storrs, Conn., the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art at
Wichita State University, and the Institute of Contemporary Art
in Philadelphia, among others.
